"Top 10 FOSS issues of 2012"
Good article here http://opensource.com/law/13/1/top-ten-foss-2012 by Mark Radcliffe talking about some significant topics in open source in 2012.
I'm a big believer in using open source, contributing when I feel able, and I think it provides one of the crucial underpinnings in the acceleration of software development cycle times.
Mark's discussion of unlicensed FOSS is particularly interesting. GitHub, for example, could probably be a little more proactive in reminding open source contributors to include a license in their repositories. There is also a roadblock for some devs in picking the right license and making sure to incorporate the right text or links in the repository. Some best practices and some guidance in the GitHub UI could go a long way here, seems to me. Maybe even an optional setting that allows a dev to chose and include a specific license in any repo they create.
